Marine oil separators — centrifugal purifiers and clarifiers — keep fuel and lubricating oil within specification by spinning out water, sludge and solid contaminants before they reach the engine. When a purifier loses separation efficiency, the cause is almost always a worn bowl disc stack, a tired gravity disc, hardened seal rings or a scored spindle. How a marine purifier separates oil

A centrifugal separator spins fuel or lube oil at high speed inside a bowl packed with conical discs. Density differences throw water and solids outward while clean oil moves inward and upward. The condition of the disc stack, the gravity disc selection and the seals determine whether the oil leaving the purifier actually meets engine inlet specification — which is why these are the parts that matter most for your main engine and auxiliary engine.

Purifier versus clarifier

Two roles, similar hardware

A purifier removes both water and solids and uses a gravity disc to set the interface; a clarifier removes solids only and runs without a gravity disc. Many vessels run two units in series — purifier then clarifier — sharing common disc stacks and seal kits. We supply parts for both configurations.

Choosing the right gravity disc

The gravity disc bore must suit the oil density and the operating temperature. Too large a bore and water breaks through to the clean side; too small and oil is lost to the sludge space. We supply full bore-size ranges so you can dial in separation as fuel grades change.

Why does my purifier discharge water into the clean oil?

The most common causes are a gravity disc bore that is too large for the oil density, a worn or extruded main seal ring, or an incorrectly assembled bowl. Reselect the gravity disc and renew the seals at overhaul.

Do you supply complete O-ring and gasket service kits?

Yes. We supply model-matched elastomer kits covering bowl, hood, inlet and outlet seals, in nitrile or Viton grades to suit fuel oil temperature and additive exposure.

Are reconditioned separator parts reliable?

Reconditioned bowl assemblies and spindles are cleaned, dimensionally checked, crack-tested and balanced where applicable before dispatch. For obsolete models they are often the most practical and fastest route to getting a unit back in service.
