Who is Sulzer
Sulzer of Winterthur, Switzerland pioneered the low-speed two-stroke marine diesel — the legendary RTA and common-rail RT-flex engines that powered the world’s merchant fleet. Wärtsilä acquired the Sulzer diesel business in 1997, and the two-stroke line continues today under WinGD as the X-Series.

The single most important question on any Sulzer order is whether the engine is an RTA, an RT-flex or an X-Series. The Sulzer RTA is camshaft-controlled — fuel pump, fuel cam, chain drive and mechanical exhaust-valve gear. The RT-flex / RTA-flex and the WinGD X-Series are electronically controlled, replacing the camshaft with a common-rail supply unit, rail valves, flow-control units (FCU) and hydraulically actuated exhaust valves. Liners, covers, crowns and bearings are broadly common by bore, but injection and actuation parts are entirely different — always give us your exact RTA / RT-flex / X-Series designation.
